A PhD thesis entitled (authoritarian discourse in Umayyad poetry, a study in the light of cultural criticism) was discussed in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.
The thesis presented by student Ali Saleh Zboun included three chapters. The first chapter discussed the formations of the authoritarian discourse of the Umayyad rulers, the second chapter discussed the strategies of the authoritarian discourse, and the third chapter dealt with the mechanisms of masculine domination in the social discourse and the power of the marginal.
The thesis aims to deal with authoritarian discourse in its many forms as a result of the connection of the discourse concept to power, that power that sometimes turns into a tool of domineering oppression and exclusion.
The thesis recommended dealing with authoritarian discourse in all its forms that claim subjugation and control, as well as dealing with it according to the mechanisms of cultural criticism to know the deep structure in the discourse and uncover the vague facts hidden behind the discourse.
