
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture on the study of the microbial component in the alimentary canal.
The lecture aimed to introduce the microbial species present in the gastrointestinal tract and their effective role in many functions, such as strengthening and enhancing the body's immunity, increasing digestion of nutrients, as well as its role in reducing diseases.
The lecture by Dr. Basil Abdel-Zahra Abbas included two topics, the first was a presentation of the results of studies with a team from the Islamic Republic of Iran on bacteria isolated from the rumen of animals and their role in increasing the digestion and fermentation of foodstuffs to reach the maximum benefit from them, and the second topic was about isolating fungi and identifying important genes in them that are capable of increasing the analysis of cellulosic materials and cloning of these genes to be on hand for the purpose of utilization.
