A scientific study by a research team consisting of Dr. Wasfi Abboud Al-Masoudi, Harith Yarub Mahmoud and Mortada Yasser from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Basrah University in cooperation with Dr. Safana Kazem Jassim from the Southern Technical University examined the preparation of new copper, palladium and cobalt complexes and the study of their antibacterial effectiveness.
The study, which was published in Advances in Bioresearch, an international journal classified within Clarivate containers, included the preparation of a number of complexes of copper, palladium and cobalt of Schiff's base derived from methionine and hydroxy-naphthaldehyde with good productivity. The compounds were identified by spectroscopic methods and accurate elemental analysis. The analyzes confirmed the correctness of the chemical compositions of the prepared compounds.
The results of the study revealed the antibacterial activity of Gram-positive and negative bacteria, high effect of the new compounds prepared against Streptococcus pneumoniae, and weak activity against Escherichia coli and Capsicum pneumoniae.
