Seminar: Micronized Progesterone (Progyva) - A Comprehensive Scientific Review
Official Coverage
Specialized Pharmacognosy Seminar - College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah
The Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, organized a specialized scientific seminar on "Micronized Progesterone," with the participation of researchers and specialists in pharmaceutical and medical sciences.
The seminar featured a lecture by Assistant Lecturer Noor Hameed Mohsen, who presented a detailed review of Progyva — gelatin capsules administered orally or vaginally, containing bioidentical progesterone that mirrors the hormone naturally secreted by the female body during early pregnancy and menstrual cycles. She explained that this hormone is isolated and extracted from the Wild Yam plant, scientifically known as Dioscorea villosa, a potent wild herb of the Solanaceae family in which the highest hormone concentration resides in the root. The presenter highlighted that Progyva is prescribed for recurrent miscarriage, infertility, and menstrual cycle regulation — distinguished by its superior efficacy and significantly lower side-effect profile compared to synthetic progestins.
