A master's thesis in the College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the effect of burning natural gas on air pollution in Basra Governorate using the "Screen 3 View" model.
The researcher Maha Raad Kazem's thesis aims to identify the effects of gas flaring in Basra and calculate the concentration of the worst diffusion of the burned gas.
The thesis concluded that there were high concentrations of pollutants emitted from burning, some of which exceeded the recommended exposure limit by eight times, and some gases were within the limits of the explosion.
The thesis indicated that the gases reach the center of Basra Governorate with different concentrations, depending on the amount of gas burned and the state of atmospheric stability.
The thesis recommended the use of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology and the use of device such as (Scrubber and Biotrickling filter) to reduce gas emissions.
