The presenter Zainab Abdullhussain Salim demonstrates the most important objectives of studying Investigate the levels and sources of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), N-alkanes, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the sediment cores from the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, as well as the Shatt Al-Arab river, Determine TOC % and Grain size in the sediments , Identify foraminifera, Ostracoda and mollusca in sediment cores), The results reached (With increasing depth, the values of total hydrocarbons normally decrease. while the values of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons vary with increasing depth, it was found that the study area has a mixed environment through the diagnosis of Mollusca and Ostracoda, which gives environmental indicators.
The study recommends Expanding the scope of the study by using a larger number of core samples and for greater depths on a regular basis to monitor pollution levels with hydrocarbons as well as determining the distribution pattern of fossils, Studying the harmful effects of hydrocarbons on public health by monitoring the resulting deformities and cancers.
