Under the auspices of the respected President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and under the supervision of the Director of the Iraqi Women’s Empowerment Division, Wafaa Hesaj Al-Mayahi, the Iraqi Women’s Empowerment Division, in cooperation with the High Commission for Human Rights and the Leadership Team for Development, held its second scientific conference entitled (CEDAW and Islamic Sharia) in the presence of the respected President of the University of Basrah and the respected deans, members of the University Council as well as Mr. Hassan Al-Najjar, representative of the Basra Governorate Office, and other officials at the theater hall in the Bab Al-Zubair Colleges Complex.
The conference aims to introduce the agreement and study its compatibility with Islamic law and national provisions.
The conference included two days, the first day in presence, and an art exhibition of painting and sculpture was held on the sidelines. During its sessions, axes related to the agreement, its provisions, and the extent to which they are compatible with Islamic law and Iraqi laws, were presented by a number of researchers in the field of human rights, law, and the health sector.
As for the second day, it included the problems that women face in the professional and family fields.
