The instructor at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah, Dr. Adel Jabbar Hussein, participated in the discussion of the PhD student, Mahdi Sayed, from the College of Science, Department of Biology, at the same university, on his thesis, “A Diagnostic and Molecular Study of Extra-Intestinal Parasitic Infestations in Maysan Governorate.”
The thesis included collecting samples from the appendix and gallbladder extracted by paraffin burial technique, and making tissue slices from the small intestine from a histological biopsy of people suffering from intestinal disorders. The DNA sequencing method was used to classify genetic types.
The thesis aimed at the role of opportunistic amoebae in causing pulmonary infections and the possibility of transmission of intestinal infection to the gallbladder or skin infections.
The thesis concluded that many cholecystitis and appendicitis are caused by Coccidi parasites and that the tissues of the small intestine are less susceptible to parasite infection.
