A scientific study was researched at the University of Basra, prepared by Dr. Asia Fadel Abdullah and Ms. Ayat Khaled Salem, in the Department of Ecology, College of Science.
The study, which was published in the Heliyon magazine classified within Scopus containers and entitled Potential plant leaves as a sustainable green coagulant to remove turbidity, showed that local plants were selected as economically viable green coagulants to achieve the highest turbidity removal of wastewater.
The study included the development of alternative methods that are better for human health and environmentally beneficial, an excellent alternative to the chemical coagulation used, which causes many diseases in humans, including Alzheimer's disease.
The results of the study revealed the addition of leaf extracts as new green coagulants for water pollution removal applications and the use of different extraction methods in future studies to achieve the best performance of plant extracts.
