The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah organized a course on preparing budgets.
The aim of the course is to show the importance of financial planning in the establishments and to show the importance of the discretionary budget as a planning tool and as a measure of performance, the mechanism for starting the planning process and preparing budgets and the comprehensive budget preparation process as well as preparing the various operational, monetary and financial budgets.
The course, presented by Dr. Adnan Hadi Jaaz, included an introduction to financial decisions (investment planning - financing - and capital structure), financial risks, the concept of planning and forecasting, and the concept and definition of the budget.
Types of budgets, advantages and obstacles of budgets, reasons for preparing budgets, functions of budgets, the use of quantitative methods in financial forecasting and budget building, the mechanism of preparing budgets, and applications for preparing budgets (MS Excel) were also discussed.
