
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah organized a course on intellectual property protection laws.
In implementation of the government program for the project "Developing and qualifying the capabilities of university leaders and human resources".
The aim of the course is to define what is meant by intellectual property, the types of intellectual rights and the laws that protect them.
The course, which was presented by the Head of the Private Law and Teaching Branch, Etidal Abdel-Baqi Youssef Al-Adab, included giving a historical overview of how protection arose and who were the parties that called for its necessity. In addition, the course included the types of intellectual rights, which were divided into two main parts: industrial property rights and literary and artistic property rights. The course also included giving examples of both types, such as industrial models, commercial data, trademarks, patents, literary works, and artistic works. In the course, the clarification of national laws and international agreements that protect intellectual property rights were discussed, as well as the most important bodies that can be resorted to to provide legal protection, such as the Intellectual Property Protection Organization (WIPO). Inside Iraq, and the Publication Court, as well as the National Center for the Protection of Copyright and Related Rights.
The course also included an explanation of copyright and related rights, as well as dividing these rights into financial rights and moral rights, clarifying the difference between them, clarifying what is meant by intellectual piracy and scientific theft, their legal treatment, and the most important exceptions to copyright.
At the end, the recommendation was the need to increase the courses and panel discussions for the purpose of qualifying the largest number of employees in order to spread the legal culture among the participants.
