A master's thesis at the University of Basra discusses "a pragmatic study of Chomsky's discourse on the Corona pandemic"
A master's thesis in the Department of English, College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basra, researched a contextual study of Chomsky's discourse on the Corona pandemic by student Ibrahim Inad Kazem. The thesis dealt with the study of argumentative strategies used in a number of Jomsky's meetings about the pandemic for the purpose of highlighting the importance of these strategies in persuading The recipient of the speaker's point of view and its impact on directing public opinion in a specific direction.
The thesis included five chapters divided into a theoretical and a practical side. Where the theoretical side consisting of the first, second and third chapters dealt with the theoretical frameworks of the pilgrims, in addition to a detailed review of the theory of the two worlds, Van Ameren and Crottendoorst deliberative-dialectical. As for the practical side of the thesis, which includes the fourth and fifth chapters, it dealt with a practical application of the pragmatic-dialectical theory on the selected interviews, in addition to some conclusions reached by the thesis, which can be summarized as follows:
First: Chomsky has used many argumentative strategies for the purpose of supporting the points of view that he put forward in his interviews. Second: Chomsky has relied entirely on complex argumentative constructs in building his arguments. Third: Chomsky has used many rhetorical methods to make his views more convincing to the recipient, such as using evaluative language, relying on authority
