Board's research at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed the study of the electrical activity of the brain in children with ADHD in Basra.
The research presented by the student Ahmed Kazem Ibrahim aims to study: Evaluation of the results of electroencephalography in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and analysis of the selected characteristics of ADHD in children in the study.
The research concluded that the majority of cases were males (72.5%) with a ratio of males to females 2.6:1. And that the subtype that combines hyperactivity and impulsivity with attention deficit is most frequent (60%), followed by the type of attention deficit and hyperactivity-impulsive types.
In this study EEG results were normal in 95% (38/40) of cases and abnormal in 5% (2/40). Abnormal results were in the attention deficit type and the combined type. The research recommended that the quantitative measurement of theta / beta ratio in EEG should receive attention as an aid in the diagnosis of ADHD, and a population study is required to increase the representation of the general population.
