The College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah held a seminar entitled (Preparation and diagnosis of new di-methylsiloxane derivatives and evaluation of their biological and applied efficacy) with the participation of researchers and specialists.This seminar included a lecture given by researcher Reem Mohsen Khalaf about a study conducted to manufacture noval derivatives of dimethylsiloxane, polyvinylpyrrolidone and phenyl trimethylsilane monomer. This study showed the conduct of testing compounds as antibacterial activity (50-5000 micrograms / ml) using some strains of bacteria, E and Coli, klebsiella, S. Aureus, and P. Aeruginosa. The prepared compounds showed anti-bacterial power at a high concentration compared with povidone iodine as a control and compared to it for its known effectiveness against bacteria. The workshop aimed to demonstrate the importance of dimethylsiloxane polymers in medical applications such as DMS-Zinc complex (PZ), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVB1), and Polyvinylpyrrolidone-Benzaldehyde-VinylTylethylSylane (PVB2) and tested it on standard New Zealand whiteboard curing and curing time as well as curing the New Zealand whiteboard.
