
The President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, in cooperation with the World Food Program, and within the projects presented by the Aquaculture Unit in the College of Agriculture, inaugurated the two projects of aquaculture (aquaponics system) and shrimp breeding, as these projects are considered among the pioneering projects within the sustainable agriculture programs.
It is worth mentioning that the financing of the two projects was by the World Food Program organization, and the project included three international methods of aquaculture that were established in a plastic house covered with green turf. The project relies on clean energy to use solar panels to provide electrical energy for it. In addition to the cultivation of local shrimp in one of the tanks of the aquaculture unit at the Agricultural Research Station in Al-Hartha. On the sidelines of the opening of the project, the President of the University opened a discussion hall in the Department of Animal Production with a capacity of 62 chairs.
