The College of Nursing at the University of Basra allocated a medical detachment at the Shalamcheh port, in addition to the road linking the governorates of Najaf and Holy Karbala, to provide health and treatment services to visitors walking on foot on the occasion of the Arbaeen visit.
The Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, said: In an initiative carried out by the College to serve the visitors of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, a group of professors, affiliates, and students of the College set up a medical detachment on the road connecting Basra Governorate to Holy Karbala for the purpose of providing medical and therapeutic services to visitors and people in processions. Stationed on the road, the detachment was established through voluntary efforts by our members.
For his part, the teacher, Kazem Jawad, a member of the teaching staff and the head of the medical detachment at the Shalamcheh border crossing, explained that the service work included conducting clinical examinations, providing free medicines with self-financing, and providing types of analgesics, antibiotics, anti-rash ointments, nerve relaxants, vitamins, intravenous solutions, pain-relieving injections, muscle relaxants, anti-diarrheals, antacids, and supplies. Other medical equipment, such as supports, belts, blood sugar and blood pressure testing devices, and all the medical and therapeutic assistance the visitor needs during his journey.
It is worth noting that the College of Nursing initiative is held on a regular annual basis on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) as part of volunteer activities to serve the community.
