Dr. Wafaa Yassin Najm, a faculty member in the College of Law, participated in the Fifth Arab Conference on Higher Education and Sustainable Development held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt. She presented a research paper titled "The University Woman in Sustainable Development (University of Basra as a Model)." Her research emphasized the importance of all societies striving to achieve sustainable development goals, which are designed to ensure human well-being, preserve dignity by guaranteeing a decent standard of living, and eradicate poverty. Sustainable development cannot be realized in any society without involving women in shaping this development. It is affirmed that women constitute not only half of society but are an integral part of it. Therefore, marginalizing and excluding women from any aspects of life or in all aspects results in the loss of significant and sustainable energy and a continuous resource for the community. Hence, there is a necessity to empower women to ensure their effective participation in making political and economic decisions, making them a significant element in driving development and its sustainability.
