The College of Medicine in Basrah University invites postgraduate students and researchers to utilize the recently acquired and operational Mass Spectrometry and Liquid Chromatography (MS-LC) instrument for which was tested by trial samples to assess its efficiency, yielding exemplary results (Figure 1).

About the Device
What is LC-MS?
LC-MS is an advanced analytical chemistry technique that combines liquid chromatography's physical separation with mass analysis of substances. This integration enhances the capabilities of both methods rapidly. Liquid chromatography separates material mixtures, while mass spectrometry provides spectral information about the identity of each substance.

Applications of LC-MS
This technology is capable of analyzing organic and inorganic compounds, as well as bioorganic materials, making it widely applicable in pharmaceutical, food processing, and cosmetic industries. It is valuable in pharmacokinetics, offering rapid results, high sensitivity, and specificity, making it a leading technique in protein research and pharmacy laboratories. Moreover, it can be used in food and pesticide analysis, as well as plant phenols. It is also utilized in searching for peptide biomarkers of various bacterial infections, including SARS-CoV-2. The device is also utilized in drug development, quickly diagnosing molecular weight and composition of materials.
Location of the LC-MS Device
The LC-MS instrument is located in the Research Laboratory of the Chemistry Department1st floor at the College of Medicine, University of Basra, Basra, Iraq.

Central Laboratory, College of Medicine.
Operational Procedure
The College of Medicine, Basrah, has established a procedure for operating the LC-MS device, which involves collecting samples on a monthly basis. A nominal fee is imposed for each sample to ensure the instrument's continued service, either annually or every six months as needed.
