The College of Dentistry at Basra University organized a scientific lecture on drug targeting, delivered by Dr. Ali Taha Yassin.
The lecture explained the methods for the drug to reach the target sites in the target tissue, cell, or organ.
The process begins by taking the medication in one of the traditional ways, either orally, by injection, or other methods. The medication is moved into the bloodstream through the absorption process and is transported to the targeted sites in the distribution process. During this process, some medications may be chemically affected through the metabolism process before they are transported. It also takes effect and it is possible to remove the drug from the body through the elimination process.
The lecture aims to identify the results obtained by researchers in the field of the pharmaceutical industry to innovate new methods that can overcome the aforementioned defects through the manufacture of smart drug transport systems that release the drug into the target tissue in a controlled process.
