The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah hosted this seminar, about("The Pharmaceutical Industry in Iraq: Current State and Aspirations," )with the participation of researchers and experts.
The seminar objectives are to shed light on the modern pharmaceutical industry in Iraq, focusing on both private and public pharmaceutical facilities across different regions of Iraq, including Basrah. It compared these facilities in terms of the number of products and classifications, their capacity to meet the country's pharmaceutical needs, and the reduction of imported pharmaceuticals, while also comparing them to neighbouring countries in terms of the number of factories.
The seminar included an explanation of the operation of pharmaceutical control laboratories within the Basrah Health Department, emphasizing how they officially inspect drugs on behalf of the Iraqi Ministry of Health. This includes locally manufactured drugs and pharmaceuticals imported by offices and companies. As a result, the seminar emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and efficacy of medicines by subjecting them to chemical, physical, and biological examinations in pharmaceutical control laboratories before issuing certificates for prescription purposes.
