The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed the master’s thesis (Preparation, analysis and evaluation of the microbiological effectiveness of new pharmaceutical derivatives of crown ethers)
The study by researcher Zeina Abdel Ali Jabr aimed to activate the function of dibenzo-18-crown-6-ether to prepare alpha-beta unsaturated ketone compounds (chalcone) using chemical reactions with aromatic aldehydes, which have medicinal properties such as antibacterial and antifungal properties. The activity of these compounds was evaluated. The compounds were compared to a known antibiotic, and showed effective antibacterial activity against bacteria.
The benefit of this study lies in the development of new compounds that show antibacterial activity and may be used as an effective alternative to traditional antibiotics in combating bacterial infections. This study enhances the possibility of diversifying and developing new drug compounds with higher effectiveness and using them in multiple therapeutic areas.
