The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed a master’s thesis (Assessing the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of doctors and pharmacists in Basra towards pharmacovigilance and discovering the main barriers to reporting adverse drug interactions)
The researcher, Muhammad Mahdi Hussein Abdul Hussein Al-Moussawi, stated that clinical pharmacists outperform pharmacists and general physicians in the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practice regarding pharmacovigilance. The most important reasons that contribute to the low degree of documentation or lack of reporting in health institutions is the lack of clinical experience among the majority of health care providers and the failure to obtain information from patients in an appropriate, correct, and accurate manner.
The thesis aims to assess knowledge, attitudes and practice towards reporting adverse drug reactions (ADR) and pharmacovigilance among doctors and pharmacists in Basra as well as evaluating the main reasons for under-reporting of ADRs.
