The thesis, conducted by researcher Alaa Mohammad Mahmoud, involved isolating bacteria from the vaginal flora of pregnant and non-pregnant women and determining the resistance of these bacteria to antibiotics.
The thesis objective is to acquaint the relationship between bacteria isolated from pregnant women and those found in birth halls in Basrah hospitals. Additionally, it sought to determine the appropriate dilution ratios for the disinfectants used to sanitize these rooms and whether there was a correlation between bacterial antibiotic resistance and resistance to disinfectants.
The thesis found that the dilution ratios did not align with recommended standards by disinfectant companies. It also revealed antibiotic-resistant bacteria within birth halls. In its recommendations, the thesis emphasized the importance of conducting antibiotic sensitivity tests before prescribing treatment to patients, highlighted the need to train personnel working in birth halls on various disinfectants and their application, and stressed the necessity of implementing water sterilisation filters within hospitals.
