The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra, as part of the Agricultural Tree Afforestation Week initiative launched by the University of Basra, identified the agricultural lands that can be afforested with varieties of evergreen seedlings.
Agricultural engineer Afrah Jamil Jassim, who is responsible for the afforestation process, said, “The afforestation process was carried out based on the instructions of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, to plant arable areas for the university’s gardens and to urge students to contribute to planting seedlings.”
She added that more than 60 seedlings were prepared, including Palm Maryam, oleander, Mina Al-Shujari, desert petunia, and morning rose, and the students planted them in the soil, and there will be continuous maintenance and follow-up to preserve them in order to make the national afforestation plan a success, which encourages the planting of trees and the elimination of desertification.
