The College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium about"pollution in the Basrah Governorate and its effects on the spread of allergies and asthma.
The symposium, which was led by several lecturers, shed light on the significant environmental pollution experienced by the Basrah Governorate, encompassing water, air, and soil pollution. This pollution has significantly increased after the wars that the governorate endured, resulting in fires, the destruction of oil and industrial facilities, and the impact of human and industrial waste. This has led to various diseases such as eye irritation, nasal congestion, throat irritation, breathing difficulties, and the exacerbation of other respiratory diseases.
The symposium concluded with several recommendations to reduce environmental pollution, such as relocating factories away from population concentrations, ensuring that vehicles meet environmental safety standards, and prohibiting open-air waste burning.
