Under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra.
The Community Health Nursing Branch in our college held a scientific symposium on suffocation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in which the lecturer, Dr. Firas Abdel Qader, head of the Community Health Branch, and Professor Dr. Sajjad Salem Issa, a faculty member, lectured.
The symposium included the causes and signs of suffocation, how to treat emergency cases for a child, a pregnant woman, and an adult, how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a detailed explanation of cardiac resuscitation, and how to perform chest compressions and administer a rescue breath, as it is considered a life-saving procedure and requires high skill and experience. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation requires the flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and other important organs until the most qualified medical treatment arrives to save the patient.
The symposium aimed to avoid confusion and fear when facing emergency situations and how to save a patient's life in the event of suffocation and loss of consciousness.
The symposium recommended the necessity of increasing the dissemination of health education through conducting intensive courses and workshops on cardiopulmonary resuscitation for various segments of society and creating posters explaining how to perform the steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the event of loss of consciousness and treatment of suffocation.
For his part, the representatives appreciated the efforts made by all teaching staff, praising their attempts to provide the best services in light of the available capabilities, wishing them continued success and brilliance in serving our dear university.
