The Department of Earth Science at the College of Science organized a seminar entitled Modern Tectonics of Basrah Governorate, southern Iraq, using InSAR techniques. The seminar, in which researcher Obaida Arif Abdul Karim Al-Zakryali lectured, aims to determine the extent to which the results of active remote sensing are applied in diagnosing the causes of modern tectonics, such as depressions and rises in Basrah Governorate and its oil and gas fields. The study included the use of radar (SAR) visuals, which use microwave waves, and using the (StaMPS) method, in which interference was made between the visuals. The results reached a diagnosis of depressions and rises in Basra Governorate and its oil and gas fields, which represent modern tectonics, as well as their natural and unnatural causes, that is, whether they Tectonic or non-tectonic in nature.
