The Department of Earth Science at the College of Science discussed a master’s thesis entitled Evaluating the pollution of hydrocarbon compounds in the water and sediments of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their confluence in the Shatt al-Arab, north of Basra Governorate, Iraq. Researcher Maryam Abdel Karim Qassem’s thesis aims to evaluate the pollution of water and sediments of the Tigris, Euphrates and Shatt al-Arab rivers in the Al-Multaqa area at the city of Qurna to determine the sources of hydrocarbon compounds in that region. The study included collecting water and sediment samples from three stations distributed in each of the Tigris, Euphrates and Shatt al-Arab rivers in general. Quarterly. The results showed that there were changes in environmental factors and some sediment characteristics.
