Dr. Maher Mandil chaired the session on the Stratigraphy and Fossils Branch, in addition to his participation in two different research papers.
His participation included presenting a first research paper entitled A comprehensive study of the Dammam Formation to determine its environments, from wells and detectors in central to southern Iraq. It aimed to present the latest developments regarding the formation in terms of age and environment.
The second research dealt with a stratigraphic and paleontological comparison of the Nafael Formation in two sections of the city of Samawah and Nasiriyah, comparing a distinct layer in the formation, identifying its most important environments, and identifying the lithological and paleontological variation between them.
As for the lecturer, Ahmed Abu Al-Hail Hussein, his participation included presenting a research entitled (Evaluation of heavy metals in water and sediments accumulated due to sinkholes in the Shatt al-Arab), indicating the effects of these sinkholes on the environment and obtaining results that represented exceeding the recorded percentages of Iraqi and international water standards, and the evidence indicated that High levels of pollution in river sediments collected near sinkholes.
