I researched a master’s thesis in the Department of Geography/College of Education for Human Sciences/University of Basra - hydrological indicators of the main morphometric parameters of the Diyala River Basin - for the student
(Mustafa Hassan Jabbar)
The study dealt with determining the morphometric factors that dominate the hydrological characteristics in the Diyala River Basin by studying all the morphometric parameters related to the river basin and the water canal network and showing the correlation between all the morphometric parameters and the hydrological characteristics.
The study included six chapters, as the first chapter dealt with the introduction, which relied on defining its objectives, importance, justifications, methods of work, and previous studies. The second chapter included a description of the study area of the Diyala River Basin, which included the natural and human characteristics in the study area, while the third chapter specialized in clarifying the morphometric parameters of the Diyala River Basin, while the fourth chapter was concerned with the morphometric parameters of the water channels, while the fifth chapter focused on the characteristics of water flow. For the Diyala River Basin, the sixth chapter focuses on the statistical analysis of morphometric and hydrological parameters.
The results of the statistical analysis concluded that the area of the river basin has a strong direct correlation with the river levels, while there is no clear relationship between the river levels and the shape of the basin and its stratification, as it was found that the area of the basin is the dominant factor for the basin in influencing the hydrological characteristics, while the levels are the dominant factor for the water channels in Impact on hydrological characteristics.
