Spatial and temporal study of polychlorinated Biphenyls and pesticide biogeochemistry in Eastern Al-Hammar Marshes, by researcher (Afaq Mahdi Gabr), where the study aims to identify the temporal and spatial distribution of concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls and pesticides in water, sediments and some aquatic organisms (plants and fish) in Five station selected from the Eastern AL- Hammar marsh, which are considered environmentally stable substances as they are slow to decompose and have the ability to bioaccumulate in the tissues of plants and fish at concentrations exceeding what is found in the environment. The study concluded that the concentrations were within the permissible limits and that they do not affect the quality of the water, and the highest concentrations were in the sediments. This was the first study to determine the concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the marshes of Iraq. The study recommended the necessity of conducting subsequent studies to monitor the concentrations of compounds of these dangerous and toxic substances and the necessity of treating the water from any pollutants or chemicals before releasing them into the aquatic environment.
