The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, held a scientific lecture on reports of the results of vital pulp therapy (VPT) for the management of permanent teeth with symptoms that indicate irreversible pulpitis.
Assistant lecturer Batoul Bassem Moanis pointed out in his lecture about preserving the tooth pulp using bioceramic putty, which in turn preserves the structure and vitality of the teeth instead of treating them with root fillings, which in the long run causes weakness in the structure of the teeth due to the loss of the vitality of the teeth.
The lecturer explained that this method of treatment depends on the appropriate selection of the case, sterilization, and the materials used to cover the tooth pulp, all of which are mandatory to achieve success.
The lecturer explained the cases that were presented after being followed up from 6 months to a year and a half, showing the success of the vital pulp treatment in terms of the disappearance of the signs that were the reason for patients reviewing these teeth, as well as the success of the cases in terms of (clinical evaluation) and radiographic evaluation, which were normal.
However, it requires a longer period of follow-up to ensure the long-term success of the cases.
