The Geography Department at the College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra held a scientific symposium on the impact of migration on human security in Basra Governorate, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Nidaa Muhammad Baqir, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and the Head of the Geography Department.
The symposium aimed to explain the size of population migration to Basra Governorate and its effects on the human security of the Basra citizen in all its aspects, especially services, job opportunities, and community security.
The symposium, moderated by Prof. Dr., discussed Abbas Abdul Hassan Kazem Several topics dealt with explaining the main reasons for population migration from the southern governorates to Basra, the most important of which are climate change, drought and desertification, which generated increasing pressure on services, and worked to bring about a change in the nature and customs of the Basra community. It also contributed to reducing the burden of work and increasing the level of Crime and drug abuse.
The symposium was attended by agricultural engineer Alaa Hashem Al-Badran from the Basra Governorate Council, Professor Abdullah Saadoun Kased, Director of the Department of Immigration and Displacement in Basra, and lecturer Professor Dr. Salah Hashem Al-Asadi.
