The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra discussed a master’s thesis on the isolation and screening of bacteria that produce bioflocculation compounds and their use in wastewater treatment.
The study by graduate student Asala Muhammad Kulaib highlighted the necessity of adopting biological treatment using microorganisms in treating wastewater.
The study touched on the isolation and diagnosis of bacteria producing flocculants from different sites, evaluating their efficiency in treating polluted water, and the possibility of using bioflocculation technology to remove a group of pollutants in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
The study recommended finding bacterial species with high efficiency in producing bioflocculation compounds and using them in wastewater treatment.
