Within university's policy of environmental sustainability... University of Basrah organizes a workshop on radioactive isotopes
Pharmacy college at University of Basrah organized a workshop on radioisotopes, their most important properties, and the factors affecting their stability. The workshop included a lecture by Dr. Rahim Jamil Muhaisen, in which he explained the types of nuclear radiation that are emitted from radioactive isotopes. There are three types of radiation: alpha and beta, which have the characteristics of particles, and the third type is gamma, which has the characteristics of photons. Nuclear radiation is used in medical fields, some of which are used for diagnosis and some of which are used for treatment. Nuclear positron radiation is also used in the accurate diagnosis of some pathological conditions as well as the diagnosis of cancerous tumors The side effects that could be caused by nuclear radiation used in the medical field and ways to prevent them were discussed.
