Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, and with the follow-up of the College’s Continuing Education Unit, our college organized a workshop on the impact of electronic games on academic achievement. The workshop included several important topics, including the first topic, in which the assistant teacher, Nour Salah Sharif, lectured.
Introduction to the impact of electronic games, types of electronic games, and the effects of video games on academic achievement. The second topic, in which the teacher, Dr. Noha Saeed Kazem, lectured, touched on the positive and negative impact of electronic games.
The workshop recommended educating students in knowing the pros and cons of electronic games, knowing the evaluation score the game received, determining the age group and time period for the game, and educating and guiding students to know the harms of electronic games that leave effects on their psychology and behavior. The workshop emphasized the necessity of distributing students’ time between studying and playing. The time for electronic play and physical sports play should be on official holidays, and students and teenagers should be encouraged to play games that develop thinking, intelligence, problem-solving techniques, and how to act in critical situations.
