Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem, President of the University of Basra, and under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, and in cooperation with the College’s Continuing Education Unit
Our college organized a scientific symposium on blackmail and cyberbullying, in which Professor Dr. Ibtihal Al-Nahi, Assistant Professor Dr. Sondos Baqir Daoud, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, and Lecturer Professor Louay Shehab Abdel Wahed, Head of the Basic Medical Sciences Branch, lectured.
The symposium included a lecture on electronic blackmail, its types, causes and motives, whether material, psychological or emotional, in addition to explaining the negative effects and damages that the victim will suffer directly or indirectly as a result of the pressures and threats used by blackmailers after they target the victim. The symposium touched on the most important preventive methods and recommendations. Which must be followed to limit the spread of this phenomenon, control it, and protect citizens from it, as it is considered a serious crime that is alien to our society
The symposium aimed to identify the concept of bullying, types of bullying, and explain the most important therapeutic methods for the phenomenon of bullying among members of society.
The symposium recommended the importance of protecting the rights of individuals who have been subjected to the phenomenon of bullying and compensating them for the psychological or physical harm to which they were exposed. It also stressed the importance of monitoring children on the Internet and social media and paying attention to any unusual signs, and the need for the government to establish strict laws to punish those who practice bullying in all its forms. Al-Nahi also stated that this phenomenon has very serious effects, and could even lead to death.
And holding ongoing educational seminars and workshops to spread awareness
Preparing awareness programs directed at human rights and programs directed at families about the best appropriate educational methods to raise a properly aware generation without resorting to violence and abuse. Increasing community awareness of cyber blackmail issues and the existence of helplines to report these cases.
