The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on mechanisms for collecting, preserving and analyzing water and sediment samples in accordance with international standards.
The workshop aimed to train graduate students on the mechanisms of collecting field samples in a scientific and accurate manner. The workshop, in which Dr. Makiya Muhalhal Khalaf Al-Hajjaj lectured, included learning methods for collecting water and sediment samples from water bodies according to correct scientific methods, mechanisms for preserving samples according to the purpose for which the samples were collected, extraction processes, preparing samples for the required measurements, and identifying appropriate measuring devices.
The workshop recommended the necessity of training graduate students on the use of field devices and equipment before starting to collect research samples
