The Dentistry College, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Branch, and under the supervision of the Continuing Education Unit at Basra University, held a scientific symposium entitled “Diabetes in the Field of Dentistry,” in which Hanaa Khazal, a teaching assistant at the college, Dean assistant for Scientific Affairs and a number of members of the teaching staff attended.
The symposium addressed the definition of diabetes, its most important types and symptoms, in addition to the serious complications that can occur in the event of irregular blood sugar levels in chronic patients. The symposium also discussed the method of clinical and laboratory examination and ways to prevent this disease.
The symposium referred to the most important recent discoveries in trying to treat the disease from the pharmacological aspect, the types of insulin available, the most important oral symptoms and complications in diabetic patients, and ways to avoid them.
The seminar aims to maintain regular visits to the dental clinic to conduct routine examinations, inform the dentist that you have diabetes, go to the doctor when you notice redness, swelling, or bleeding of the gums, and stop smoking, as smoking increases the risk of gum disease and thus leads to the exacerbation of diabetes.
