The Pharmacology and Toxicology Department at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a discussion panel (Toxicity of Supplements Extracted from Algae)
The discussion panel included a lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Manal Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, in which she explained that green algae, which bears various names, has a nutritional role due to the nutritional value it carries, but recently it has been introduced into the manufacture of pharmaceutical supplements, but recent global research has proven that these preparations are toxic due to their contamination with various types of algae. Types of harmful bacteria that cause serious diseases in humans, such as pneumonia, kidney failure, and hepatitis. This was done after analyzing various samples from them.
The lecture aimed to raise awareness among the community not to use any promoted nutritional supplement without scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge
