Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem, and under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra. Within the series of seminars conducted by the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, our college organized a cultural symposium on the occasion of the National Afforestation Day.
Believing in its role in combating desertification and sustaining vegetation cover at the university, Professor Dr. Abdul Amir Abdullah Al Musawi, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, teacher Farhan Laith Ayez, and assistant teacher Riyad Hussein Taqi, faculty members at the college, lectured. The symposium addressed the importance of green spaces in society and universities because of their It can purify the air and add beauty to the place, as well as psychological comfort, especially since the green color gives people psychological comfort and makes them feel energetic and optimistic.
For his part, Al-Mousawi said that this symposium aims to strengthen the foundations and principles of the model educational environment, which requires providing a healthy climate and suitable environmental atmosphere for students, teaching staff and associates working in the college, in addition to improving the aesthetic appearance and highlighting the university campus in its brightest and most beautiful image in order to enhance environmental sustainability.
The symposium aimed to introduce students to increasing green spaces and providing suitable climates and a suitable environment for students. Awareness and education were given to plant a number of spaces with evergreen trees and decorate the gardens with roses and trees that are resistant to environmental conditions and high temperatures in the summer. The campaign included planting many seedlings of various types of trees. It has a high ability to withstand the hot conditions of Basra Governorate. For his part, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing, confirmed on this beautiful occasion that the tree is a symbol of giving, so it must be preserved and cared for, and the tree helps purify the air and gives an attractive aesthetic appearance. Therefore, the celebration of National Afforestation Day is considered one of the celebrations that encourage individuals and institutions, in addition to students, to plant and care for it in order to develop their belonging to it. On this day, individuals are encouraged by the college dean to make them aware of the importance of the tree and the possibility of preserving it.
