The University of Basra organizes a seminar on the phobia of losing a mobile phone
The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra organized a seminar on the fear of losing a mobile phone (nomophobia).
The seminar aimed to identify the term “Nomophobia” as a new term, and its health and psychological effects.
The episode presented by lecturer Khawla Hassan Hammoud showed that nomophobia is derived from the English word “NO MObile PHone PhoBIA,” which was translated to “nomophobia” by specialists to express a state of anxiety, and perhaps panic, in a person who has lost contact with others via his smartphone.
It is a social and psychological disease that refers to the fear of not having access to a mobile phone, which causes very harmful health and psychological effects and a state of mental confusion and irrational discomfort that the individual experiences.
The episode recommends the necessity of learning how to manage the negative thoughts and feelings that appear when thinking about not owning a phone, and dealing with them by adopting some correct behaviors under the supervision of a specialist and learning to confront fear through gradual exposure to it.
