:An M.A thesis at Basrah University Entitled(Earth and Man in the Poetry of Badr Shaker Al-Sayyab: A Study in ECO Criticism)

The thesis has been discussed at the Department of Arabic Language/College of Education for Human Sciences/University of Basrah.
Topic & Abstract: The thesis tackles thesis dealt with the study of Al-Sayyab’s poetry. According to the foundations and standards of environmental or ecological criticism, as it addressed the most important problems of ecological criticism; This is done by tracing the stages of his poetic writing, and observing the development of his ecological feeling, during the subjective, realistic, metaphorical and return-to-self stages of his poetry.
The thesis included a study of Al-Sayyab’s poetic stages according to the standards and theories of environmental or ecological criticism.
Thesis Outline: The thesis falls into Three chapters. Chapter One(the land and man in the “subjective” pastoral stage). Chapter Two(The Earth and Man in the Post-Pastoral “Realistic” Stage). Chapter Three (The Earth and Man in the Stage of Return to Self)
Conclusions: The thesis has come up with the following conclusions: The thesis concluded that Al-Sayyab’s pastoralism represents the shallow level of environmental literature according to ecocriticism
Issues of race, class, and gender represented the most important issues of social ecology, and the ecological symbol chronotope represented a point of return to man’s relationship with the earth again, and material and biological agencies represented the most important threat to the human self, culturally and materially.
