TThe Women's Affairs Unit at the Dentistry College of Basra University, launched a campaign to combat the scourge of drugs in Iraqi society by displaying awareness videos at the beginning of each lecture for students and for all stages.
The Basra University is one of the most important educational institutions that society relies on to raise awareness of the dangers and harm that can befall individuals as a result of falling into the pitfalls of crime in general and drugs in particular.
The assistant teacher, Farah Abdel Razzaq, responsible for the Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Treatment and Cosmetic Dentistry Branch and the Continuing Education Unit, indicated that the responsibility for confronting the problem of drug abuse falls on the shoulders of all systems of society without exception, the educational system, especially the colleges. It is at the forefront of these systems with regard to the need for it to play a more effective role in confronting the drug problem, as it is one of the educational institutions that can take measures and prepare programs that help it protect children from falling into the dangers of drug abuse and addiction.
The importance of the university is aimed at its ability to play a preventive role in confronting drugs and protecting young people from their dangers, through its focus on the cognitive or cognitive aspect, which includes (concepts, facts, and principles), the emotional aspect, which includes (inclinations, attitudes, and values), and the skill or psychomotor aspect, which includes (trust, persuasion and response).
From this standpoint, the university is able to play effective roles in achieving preventive education for students, through the educational elements represented by professors, curricula, and student activities.
