A board's research at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed a comparative study between laparoscopic surgery and laparotomy for the treatment of perforated duodenal ulcers. The research presented by student Haider Adnan Yassin aims to study the comparison between laparoscopic surgery and laparotomy to treat duodenal ulcer perforation due to some factors during and after the surgical procedure. Since the rates of ulcer perforation requiring surgery have not decreased as much as the incidence of peptic ulcer disease globally, emergency surgery for perforated duodenal ulcers is still widely performed. The research concluded that laparoscopic surgery to treat perforated duodenal ulcers is considered safe and effective as the surgical exploration of the abdomen with the advantage of having less pain after the operation, less wound complications such as infection and incisional hernia, and a faster return to recovery and carrying out daily tasks.
