I researched a master’s thesis in the Department of Geography/College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basra - registered infant deaths in Nasiriyah district for the period (2016-2022) - by the student (Arkan Ali Jaber Khairallah).
The importance of this topic is evident as it is one of the important indicators that measure the extent of development of services in various fields, whether economic, health, or social. Therefore, it highlighted the volume and growth of infant mortality and its rates, whether annual or quarterly distribution, as well as knowing the most important causes leading to infant mortality. Both its underlying biological and environmental types, as well as the most important demographic, economic and social variables affecting the size and variation of infant mortality rates, and the effects resulting from them.
The thesis concluded that the way in which infant deaths are distributed among the judiciaries. The study relied on the administrative unit as official cadastral units to measure this distribution. It was found through the distribution of infant deaths that it was characterized by concentration in the center of the judiciary and variation in relation to the rest of its administrative units, as the center of the judiciary was located It ranked first for all years of study for the period (2016-2022), amounting to (3832) deaths, with a percentage of (94.5%) of the total infant deaths, amounting to (4055) deaths.
The study showed that infant deaths are divided into two main categories, as the number of infant deaths for the first age group reached (2571) deaths, while the number of infant deaths for the later age group decreased (1484) deaths, reaching the highest level of deaths in the year 2019, as it reached ( 410 deaths were recorded in the first age group, while (240) deaths were recorded in the late age group
