The Pharmacology and Toxicology Department at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (The relationship between vitamin B deficiency and headaches in children and adolescents)
The discussion panel included a lecture given by the lecturer, Rasha Naseer, in which she explained that headaches are a common chronic neurological disorder, classified into primary and secondary headaches. Primary headaches include tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches, while secondary headaches are the result of another disease in the body, such as an injury, tumor, or bleeding in the head, neck, or face, and may occur for other reasons, such as sinusitis and other infections.
The prevalence of headaches increases with age and is more common in women than in men. There is a high percentage of children and adolescents who complain of headaches diagnosed as primary headaches during their lives. One of the main causes of these headaches is vitamin B12 deficiency, which affects the nerves and blood vessels and causes primary headaches. Therefore, vitamin B replacement therapy is to correct the deficiency in the vitamin level, and thus it is the best treatment for headaches associated with vitamin B12 deficiency.
