The thesis by student Imad Salem Dasher aims to identify the effect of the methods of changing rules and diverting thinking in modifying future thinking among university students.
The thesis dealt with an important topic, which is university students’ negative thinking about the future, as this negative outlook came as a result of the reality they live in as a result of the poor security conditions and the economic and political crises that the country is witnessing at the present time and the confusion and dispersion imposed by reality, which directly or indirectly affects the way of thinking. Towards the future, as they expect that their future will be more ambiguous and thus this is reflected in their thinking about their future career after study and the career opportunities available to them to achieve psychological and professional stability and achieve the decent life they aspire to achieve.
The results showed that the two counseling programs based on the methods of changing the rules and diverting thinking have achieved an impact in modifying future thinking among members of the two experimental groups.
The thesis recommended that counselors working in the counseling units affiliated with university colleges can benefit from the two counseling programs and apply them in special courses for students. The role of teaching staff at the university must be activated in guiding students and helping them in implanting positive thinking about the future and planning for it.
