A scientific study was conducted at the University of Basrah by Dr. Muhannad Hamid al-Jabri, Dr. Hamid Sultan, a lecturer at the college of Science, University of Babylon, Dr. Khalil Jabbar, and researcher naisa Hassan Sawadi entitled clay minerals for the formation of shiranch in Erbil and Dohuk, northern Iraq . It was published in the IOP Journal as part of the Earth and Environment Conference series within the third Scientific Conference of the geology of the Iraqi desert, classified as scopes Q3 . The aim of the study is to determine the variation and spatial distribution of clay minerals in the shiranch formation . The study included the diagnosis of clay minerals in the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian-Maastrichtian) in the cities of Dohuk and Erbil . The results of the study concluded that the shiranesh formation in northern Iraq consists of minerals based on the place of origin, metamorphic and crumbly, such as kaolinite Mineral of crumbly origin because it is not formed in marine conditions, chlorite, illite, and baligorskite are the place of origin, and the presence of these types of clay minerals in the shiranesh formation is an indicator of the deep freedom of the environment in a warm climate.
