A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology, College of Science at the University of Basra investigated the evaluation of air pollutants resulting from gas combustion in the Rumaila oil field, Basra, Iraq.
The study, presented by student Hussein Talib Kharibish, aims to evaluate the levels and changes of some air pollutants, study the impact of weather factors, and analyze satellite data to determine patterns of the spread of pollutants in Basra.
The study concluded that burning gas leads to high levels of pollutants that exceed local and global air quality standards and how meteorological factors affect the dispersion of pollutants.
The study recommended implementing strategies to control emissions in the Rumaila field and the importance of monitoring to evaluate air quality in Basra Governorate.
